Once, a big group of monkeys decided to improve their life as they were not doing well in comparison to their cousins (!), human beings.
As humans have pleased God especially by fasting, they decided
to fast too, although it was not easy for them.
So, very next day they begin their fast.
So, very next day they begin their fast.
It was a group fast and all need to abide by rules to get the
accumulative benefit.
After half an hour of fasting they started feeling uneasiness in
their tummy.
After all they were not accustomed to such a thing.
When the squirming in the stomach became unbearable, the leader
suggested," We should go close to banana trees.
We will be saving our time to go there at the time of breaking
fast.
Within minutes everyone was there!
After one long hour of fasting, the fidgeting in their stomach
was at peak.
One intelligent monkey suggested that we should collect all the
bananas now and thus we would not be working hard in the evening, at the time
of breaking fast.
The suggestion was readily accepted by all.
Very soon not a single banana was left on any of the trees.
The banana heap was lying in the middle.
The banana heap was lying in the middle.
All the monkeys were drooling over it.
A monkey weakened by fast gave a valuable suggestion.
We might be very weak by the end of the day.
We should peal the banana and put in our mouth, so we will be
saving the effort in evening.
At the time of breaking fast we just need to chew those bananas'
within our mouth.
Without even wasting time in saying yes, they all packed their
mouths with as many bananas as they could!
They really looked funny.
Now suddenly one monkey happened to sneeze.
But he didn't want to loose his share of bananas from his mouth
at any cost.
In effort to hold the sneeze, he closed his mouth and..oops..
swallowed those bananas! Everyone was in great shock!!
One wise monkey suggested," We should keep our team spirit
intact.
We
should not let this innocent buddy suffer alone from Gods wrath.
We
all were fasting together and we all should break it together too.
The
resolution was unanimously accepted with full votes.
Thus,
with a sigh of relief all of them enjoyed bananas to their ultimate
satisfaction.
Most
of them packed themselves so much that next day they suffered from heavy indigestion.
This was the "The End" of the story of the monkeys, who tried to equal humans!
This was the "The End" of the story of the monkeys, who tried to equal humans!
Really
speaking, we also act like these monkeys most of the time.
We
decide on a material or spiritual goal.
We
make firm resolution to work on it.
But
its finishing day never comes.
It
just dies somewhere in-between.
Yes,
we make resolutions and then discard them by fooling ourselves!
Let us develop the qualities of determination and patience, which will give us ability to stick to the natural principles in life, especially at the time of trouble.
Let us develop the qualities of determination and patience, which will give us ability to stick to the natural principles in life, especially at the time of trouble.
Lord
Krishna states that those who are very much attached to bodily pleasures can
never have firm determination to carry out any task (Bhoga Aeshvarya Prasaktanam Taya Aprihta chetsam, Vayasayitmika
buddih, samadho na vidhiyatae).
Foolish
men don't even start a task due to fear of obstacles.
Un-determined
people leave their work in middle, when they encounter some problem.
But
the people with determination and patience complete their work successfully
even if they face millions of troubles!
Let's stop acting like monkeys (making resolution and not following them)!
